Education Ministry worker closely monitored after visit to Ebola-hit Nigeria
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An employee of the Ministry of Education who travelled to her homeland of Nigeria was quarantined at home and constantly monitored by health official, according to an ONLINE OBSERVER source.
“The Health Ministry kept constant contact with her,” the source said.
According to the source, other workers at the Education Ministry had expressed deep concerns with the woman’s travel to Ebola-hit Nigeria. Before her arrival in the island, the Education Ministry sought advice on how to deal with the situation.
The source said that the woman, who had been living in Jamaica for years, was sent to health care workers for screening upon her arrival.
She was subsequently sent on leave and monitored.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites said that the woman has shown no signs of being infected and will soon be back on the job.
He said she was sent on leave and monitored out of precaution.
