Maradona shoots down Messi’s MVP Award
Argentina’s legend Diego Maradona has labelled Lionel Messi’s Golden Ball Award from FIFA as a marketing plan.
Maradona, who led his country to the title in 1986, said his countryman was not deserving of the award as persons such as Germany’s Thomas Mueller and Arjen Robben of the Netherlands, were more deserving.
He also highlighted Colombia’s James Rodriguez, who collected the Golden Boot Award for his 6 goals as a better candidate.
Maradona said quote “I would have given him heaven if possible, but it’s not right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have because of a marketing plan”.
FIFA’S president Sepp Blatter also stated he was surprised Messi got the award.
