Policeman linked to Clarendon death squad nabbed in Canada

A Jamaican policeman was taken into custody in Canada after an operation by the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Durham Regional Police Service.

Local investigators have confirmed that he is one of  the cops accused of  being involved in the so-called death squad in Clarendon.

He has been identified as Witney Hutchinson, 28,  who has been labeled by the Canadian police as an international fugitive.

According to the police in Canada, Hutchinson is being investigated for 40 murders in Jamaica.

It is alleged that he fled Jamaica and entered Canada, lawfully, to visit family on June 23.

On Friday, Hutchinson was observed by members of  the Fugitive Squad in the Ajax area.

Durham Regional Police Service were contacted and he was arrested. He’s being held pending his deportation to Jamaica.

In the meanwhile, lawyers representing three of  the eleven cops charged in the death squad probe by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), will be returning to court on Monday in another attempt to have them released on bond.

The attorneys will be renewing their application for Constables Kevin Adams, Carl Bucknor and Jermone Whyte.

The policemen, who are accused of  being part of  a death squad in Clarendon, were charged in April following an investigation by INDECOM.

INDECOM claimed the cops were linked to extra-judicial killings  between 2009 and this year.

The agency said it’s probing more than 40 cases involving the group of  policemen.
