Men’s 4x400m team gives Jamaica first medal at World Relays (VIDEO)
Jamaica’s men’s 4x400m relay team that won the silver medal at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
Jamaica secured their first medal at the IAAF World Relays Yokohama 2019 on Sunday through the men’s 4x400m relay team.
The quartet of Demish Gaye, Akeem Bloomfield, Rusheen McDonald, and Nathon Allen crossed the line third in a season-best 3:01.57 but was promoted to second place and the silver medal following the disqualification of second-place the USA, which were engaged in a dramatic finish with Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago won the gold medal in a world-leading 3:00.81. Belgium (3:02.70), which crossed the line in fourth place was promoted to third and the bronze medal.
Earlier, Jamaica’s women’s 4x400m relay team finished out of the medals.
The quartet of Chrissann Gordon, Anatasha Le-Roy, Tiffany James and Janieve Russell struggled home in fifth place in season-best 3:28.30.
Poland beat the USA to win the gold medal.
The Polish quartet clocked a season-best 3:27.49 for the victory. The USA clocked 3:27.65 for the silver, while Italy finished third for the bronze medal in a season-best 3:27.74.
