Two Chinese nationals charged for massive counterfeit seizure in Jamaica

Two Chinese nationals have been charged by investigators from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime branch of the police force following the seizure of counterfeit goods valued at over $300 million in an operation on Princess Street in downtown Kingston on Wednesday.

Forty-year-old Zhang Timpim of a Kingston 5 address, and 32-year-old Yang Zhao of Kingston 8, were both charged with unauthorised use of trademark, breaches of the Customs Act, and misleading and deceptive conduct.

Reports are that about 9:00 a.m., lawmen were on an operation in the area when a number of stores were searched. Hundreds of counterfeit items, including shoes, clothing, phone cases, bag packs and other items, were seized.

Six person – five males and one female – were subsequently taken into custody However, four were later released.

The accused are to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on May 2.
