‘Visa problems’ behind him, Yami Bolo delivers on UK tour
Roots singer Yami Bolo made his first appearance in 10 years in the United Kingdom earlier this month with six dates in that country.
The 44-year-old artiste performed in London, Newcastle and Nottingham along with Addis Pablo, and the Suns of Dub which includes Trinidadian singers Jah Bami and Ras Jammy.
“We started in the country an’ full up things in the city. Everyone was well-received,” said Bolo.
The main show on the trek was Kulchasplash which took place at Electric Brixton club on Easter Monday. Jah9 and Anthony B were also featured on that gig.
Yami Bolo had been unable to perform in the UK due to ‘visa problems’. It was one of the areas his music first found favour while he was a protege of dub legend Augustus Pablo, father of Addis.
Born Rolando McLean in the Greenwich Town area of Kingston, Yami Bolo emerged as a teen performer during the mid-1980s with singer Sugar Minott’s Youth Promotions.
Dancehall songs like When a Man is in Love paved the way for roots-reggae songs likePuppet Master and Put Down the Weapons in the 1990s.
Bolo is currently working on an album titled The Singer.
