Selassie wouldn’t have approved of Chronixx- Rastafarian Elder
Rastafarian elder Ras Michael says Emperor Haile Selassie I would not have approved of any artiste describing a head of state in derogatory terms.
The Nyahbinghi drummer was commenting on the Chronixx’s statements during the visit of US President Barack Obama to Jamaica.
Obama visited Jamaica last week for bi-lateral talks with the government. Chronixx wrote on Instagram that Jamaicans were ‘glorifying’ a ‘waste man’ while the American government refuses to pardon National Hero Marcus Garvey for mail fraud.
“His Majesty was a diplomat of the highest order, he certainly would not approach things that way,” said Ras Michael.
The Ethiopian Emperor, who died in 1975, is regarded by some Rastafarians as God.
Ras Michael added that while the Rasta movement would welcome a pardon of what they believe were trumped-up charges by the Federal government against Garvey, the issue was not on Obama’s agenda.
“He didn’t come to Jamaica for that an’ we have to respect that.”
Jamaica’s prime minister Portia Simpson Miller said she spoke to Obama about a pardon for the St Ann-born Garvey who died in 1940.
