Jah Cure’s Victim Breaks Silence: “Him coulda kill me, I will never forget what he did”
Dutch concert promoter Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake has spoken publicly following last month’s ruling by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, which found Reggae singer Jah Cure guilty of attempted murder and increased his sentence to eight years and four months.
The court’s decision overturned the earlier verdict and aligned with the prosecution’s view that the attack in October 2021 was deliberate and severe. Prosecutors had initially sought a sentence of nine and a half years.
The lower court had also ordered Jah Cure, born Siccature Alcock, to pay Blake €9,452.49 in damages, though Blake’s attorney, R. Bouwman, said the award does not reflect the full costs endured.
Furthermore, Bouwman is urging fans to stop blaming the victim, calling the backlash against his client “unusual” and “unfair”. He stressed that the Reggae community should recognise that Blake is the injured party, not the instigator.
Jah Cure was convicted for stabbing Blake during a dispute over unpaid performance fees. CCTV footage captured the confrontation in Dam Square, footage which was later shown in court. The Court of Appeal detailed extensive internal injuries, including damage to Blake’s stomach and retroperitoneal area, followed by major surgery and additional medical procedures in 2024.
Despite the severity of the attack, Blake says he has forgiven the artiste, but the experience is far from forgotten. “Because mi is a God-fearing yute, mi forgive him, but mi no forget,” he told Observer Online.
He described the encounter as a “daylight ambush”, claiming Jah Cure first spoke calmly, convincing him to meet in Dam Square before suddenly attacking him. “I never felt the stab… then mi see the cut inna the jacket and everything start happen,” he recalled.
Blake says doctors told him that had the knife been thrust slightly higher, it would have pierced his heart. “Him coulda kill me, I will never forget what he did,” he added, noting that he and the singer “can never be friends”.
Bouwman confirmed that Jah Cure has appealed the Court of Appeal’s ruling, a process that could take months or years. He also noted that a civil case remains possible depending on the outcome. For Blake, closure remains elusive while the artiste continues to dispute the court’s findings.
