Embattled Dancehall Artiste Squash Sentenced to 27 Months in US Prison
Dancehall artiste Squash, whose real name is Andrae Maurice Whittaker, has been sentenced to 27 months in a United States federal prison after pleading guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Roy Altman, who also ordered that Squash serve three years of probation following his release and pay a fine of US$100.
Prosecutor Jacob Koffsky had urged the court to impose a sentence close to the maximum of 30 months. As reported by Nationwide News, to support his argument, Koffsky presented five videos retrieved from the entertainer’s phone, showing Squash holding and firing various weapons, including the pink modified Glock pistol linked to his February arrest.
Squash’s attorney, Samuel Rabin, had instead asked the court for a sentence of fewer than two years, citing mitigating factors. However, after a brief 30-minute hearing, the judge ordered that the entertainer be remanded to the custody of US Marshals to begin serving his sentence.
Meanwhile, there has been no indication that Squash’s father has been released from detention by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to court documents filed by Rabin, Squash’s father, identified publicly as Aaron Whittaker during a podcast appearance, was detained on September 5 in the lobby of the C. Clyde Atkins United States Courthouse.
The operation reportedly involved both ICE officers and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
