Four Jamaican schools in 4x800m final at Penn Relays
Defending champions Calabar lead a quartet of Jamaican school down to compete in the Championship of Americas 4×800-metre finals on Saturday’s third and final day of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Kingston College, Holmwood Technical and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are among the fastest 12 teams from Friday’s heats to qualify for the finals.
Calabar ran 8:00.12 seconds, with the team of Gawayne Porter, Norman Pittersgill, Orville Dixon and Alex Hutton, to get in as one of the slowest teams.
Kingston College was the fastest Jamaican team after clocking 7:56.36 seconds, with the team of Kadeem Willis, Chad Miller, Delano Rochester and Miguel Morrison.
STETHS ran 7:58.45 seconds with Acdane Campbell, Paul Tate, Shemar Salmon and Jauavney James, while Holmwood ran 7:59.85 seconds, with Rogaye Granston, Denvare Robinson, Kajay Walker and Daniel Glave.
Jamaica College, Edwin Allen and Spalding all failed to qualify.
And five Jamaican schools, led by Calabar High are down to contest the Championships of Americas high school boys’ 4×100-metre event, which is also scheduled for Saturday.
However defending champions and record holders Jamaica College which used two jumpers on their team and ran 43.09 seconds, 21st best, and failed to get into the finals and so a new champion will be crowned.
Kingston College, St Jago High, Calabar, St George College and St Elizabeth Technical will be joined by TC Williams of Virginia, DeMatha of Maryland and St Johns College of Washington DC in the final.
