Popular US Stand Up Comedian Dave Chappelle Attacked On Stage

Popular US stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle was surprised on Tuesday during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

As seen in a video that has since gone viral, the comedian was talking to the patrons, saying, “make some noise for HipHop history,” when an individual ran onto the stage and tackled Chappelle to the ground.

Based on footage from the aftermath, it would appear that the suspect was badly beaten by Dave’s security team who took the suspect backstage after the attack. One person took to Twitter and commented, “If you attack @DaveChappelle on stage at the Hollywood bowl his people will bring you backstage and whoop your ass. And then Dave himself will come back and stomp you personally.”

After the incident occurred, the show continued with Chappelle returning to the stage unharmed. The incident took place at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival.

“It was a trans man,” said the 48-year-old comedian/actor jokingly after the attack.

This attack on Chappelle is believed to be because of things said by the comedian last year about transgenders for which he received widescale criticism. His Netflix special was accused of being transphobic.

According to sources, after the tackle, fellow comedian Chris Rock who performed earlier at the show went on the stage and also turned the matter into a joke by asking, “was that Will Smith?”

Further reports also detailed that fellow comedian/actor Jamie Foxx also took to the stage in solidarity with his colleague.

Back in October, an estimated 100 people protested against the airing of a comedy special by Chappelle, which they said was transphobic.

Many people are against Chappelle’s previous statement that “gender is a fact” and that the LGBT community was “too sensitive”.

Since the statement, countless individuals have been trying to “cancel” him.

In response to their attempt, he stated, “To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, But you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody’s demands.”
