Jamaica wins 4×100 final at World Athletics Championship (VIDEO)

Usain Bolt won his third gold medal of the world championships, anchoring Jamaica’s 4×100-metre relay team to victory to match his haul at the Bird’s Nest in the 2008 Olympics.

Bolt won the 100- and 200-metre finals, beating Justin Gatlin in both sprints, and added the relay victory on Saturday to successfully defend all three world titles he won in Moscow in 2013.

Jamaica won in a world leading 37.36 seconds, with China getting an unexpected silver in 38.01 and Canada the bronze in 38.13. The United States team, which included Gatlin, crossed the line second in 37.77 but was disqualified after a faulty last exchange.

The other members of Jamaica’s team were Nesta Carter, Asafa Powell and Nickel Ashmeade.

The Jamaicans completed a sweep of the sprint relays with the women, anchored by 100-meter champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, also winning.

Jamaica have now won 11 medals. That medal haul comprises six gold, two silver and three bronze.

Dominica could be set back 20 years, says PM (VIDEO)

PM Roosevelt Skerrit has said that national unity is essential to rebuild Dominica in the wake of the destruction caused by Tropical Storm Erika.

In an address to the nation on Friday night, PM Skerrit confirmed that 20 residents had been killed and some are still missing. He pledged that efforts would continue to account for every person.

Stressing that patriotism and national unity must prevail in order for the island to rebound, he announced the establishment of a National Reconstruction Advisory Committee, made up of all elected officials.

All 21 parliamentarians have been invited to a special meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers being held at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday to focus on strategies to relieve immediate suffering, rebuild homes and infrastructure, diversify the economy, and generate the wealth to improve the standard of living and quality of life of Dominicans.

Noting that essential facilities and infrastructure for communication and exports such as the airport, roads and bridges have been severely impacted, the Prime Minister expressed concern about the damage to the economy, which he said had experienced 3.4 per cent real growth in 2014.

“We have, in essence, to rebuild Dominica… The visual damage I saw today I fear may have set our development process back by 20 years. I would not attempt tonight to affix a dollar value, but it is substantial.”

“We need at this time to show love, to show compassion, to show genuine interest in the welfare and wellbeing of those in mourning,” he advised. “This is a period of national tragedy and I want Dominicans on this occasion to put all other considerations aside and reach out to each other as brothers and sisters.”

Expressing thanks for the support which Dominica has received thus far, he welcomed the assistance of persons in the Dominica diaspora in the OECS, CARICOM and further afield, as well as friends around the world, and regional and international donor agencies.

He assured the residents of Dominica, “Rest assured; you are not alone in your period of mourning, in your period of p

The rolling media personnel, who tracked the legendary 29 year old sprinter following his latest triumph, bumped into the ankle height iron barriers surrounding the tracked, before careening straight into the legs of the double world champion, which sent him tumbling over.

Initial concern for the superstars safety seem to have been quickly set aside, however, as Bolt jogged off from the incident with a smile on his face.

Bolt in a press conference after the race made fun of the incident, saying jokingly that Justin Gatlin perhaps had paid the camera man.

The sprinter still has once race to go at the championship the men’s 4 x100 metres relays which comes up on Saturday.

Usain Bolt starts jogging before the finish line, still destroys Justin Gatlin in the 200m final (VIDEO)

Usain Bolt won the 200 meters at the 2015 World Championships in dominant fashion, ascending back to the top of the sport 12 months before the Rio Olympics.

Bolt’s time of 19.55 seconds is the fastest time of 2015, his fastest time since the 2012 Olympics, and his fifth-fastest time ever. And he did it while pretty much jogging the last five meters.

Bolt was even with his rival Justin Gatlin coming down the stretch, but he pulled away, broke a smile, and pointed to his chest as he coasted through the finish line:

Bolt came into the World Championships in the unfamiliar role of the underdog. He had a miserable year because of injuries and a lack of training. His fastest 200-meter time in 2015 was 20.13 seconds — well behind Gatlin’s world-best of 19.57 seconds.

But in Beijing, Bolt showed why he’s still the world’s greatest sprinter, even at age 29. He won the 100 meters, and then he followed it up by blowing everyone away in his favorite event. Check out the celebration before the race is even over:
